About

Name: Stephen Burns, C.P.T.N., B. Th.

Position: Personal Trainer

Age: 39

Experience: Coach, trainer, and strength consultant for various sports teams for over a decade, physical education instructor for developmentally disabled class for five years.

Goals: To promote fitness as a fun activity and encourage people to push themselves farther than they thought they could go. To promote the understanding that physical fitness can not be separated from emotional or spiritual health.

Pet Peeves: "Serious" fit types who look down at new people in the gym; companies who use horrible environments (cubicles) for their workers without encouraging them to be active (discount gym memberships), parents who allow their children to eat anything they want (they're kids, they'll eat fruits and veggies if you do and cut down on their sugar!), that some healthy foods are so expensive

Excited by: a new person at the gym, the smile on the face of someone who has just recorded a new personal high, listening to my clients complain about their pants being too big, a client telling me how much better they are sleeping or how much easier it is to concentrate at work

Favourite Exercises: Cable Crosses, Dips, Chain Rows, Bench Press (done properly)

Best personal moment in the gym: Benching 225lbs twenty-two times

Worst personal moment in the gym: Aggravating an old football injury in my back, and being unable to work out hard for three months

New Horizons: Running boot camps. Love them!
